We all need to save on groceries. Why buy over-sugared packaged cereals when you can make a far healthier breakfast cereal yourself?
Basic Dry Cereal
Begin with 2-3 cups of rolled oats
Add your choices of:
whole wheat flour
soy flour, grits or roasted beans
uncooked other cereals such as Ralston, grits, Wheatena and the like
pumpkin seeds, roasted
fresh grated or dried coconut
dry milk solids
spices, such as cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and the like
Add 1 cup of liquids:
brown sugar (use 2 tablespoon water with ½ cup sugar)
olive or coconut oil
milk or cream
Mix all ingredients and put into 350 degrees oven, turning every 10 minutes to break apart clumps for 30-60 minutes, or until moisture is cooked off and cereal is a lovely golden brown.
When cool, add your choice of dried fruits, raisins, dates, apples and the like.
Place in jar or other storage container.
